As door closers are predominately utilised for fire door applications, we source from manufacturers providing products tested and rated to the latest industry recognized standards. In addition to these standards, BS 8300 & the Disability Discrimination Act (DDA) also determine that door controls used in public buildings should meet certain performance criteria in order to assist less-able users. We take this into consideration when selecting products for such buildings.
Fire regulations stipulate that many doors are required to self-close. However, less-able users often find that opening doors installed with closing mechanisms difficult & sometimes impossible. To overcome this conflict of priorities, often the best solution is to either hold open electro mechanically or use power assisted door operators.
Electro-mechanically hold open door closers & devices are interfaced with the fire alarm system. They hold open doors to provide unrestricted travel through the door opening, but will automatically release & close the door if the fire alarm is activated.
Power assisted door operator systems can be configured to semi or fully automate door opening & closing, thus allowing less-able persons easy access through the doorway. A variety of activation devices determine the level of automation to suit the needs of end users.
